Intro to Modern Type Design: Week 2

Homework from Week 3: Again we crafted 3 Type Cookers, using the words ‘HOVERS’ and ‘Hanglider’ (Note to self: Try to complete those words next time…). Each one was to be substantially different from the others.

For the first, I choose to refine and build off of my best sketch from last week. For the second, I proposed an existing project that I’ve always wanted to finish: A typeface based off of the Allis-Chalmers tractor logo, originally a vector outline I made for my sister’s own farm logo. Apparently I have a penchant for fixed-width type, because the third sketch I did ended up very similar to the second: A fixed-width face based off a vintage mustard label. The narrow ‘S’ is what really appeals to me in this one. And, because I felt sketches 2 & 3 were very similar, I tried to draw something wildly different in sketch 4. Not my favorite.

Moving forward, we choose one of these sketches to become our project for the rest of the class.
